Do I need an Acknowledgement or Jurat?
The quick answer is:
Please find out what type of notarization you need from the place you are returning your document(s) to. Simply call and ask or research and find out if you need an acknowledgement or a jurat.
The long answer is:
A notary public cannot tell you or explain what type of notarization you need. I can identify the signer(s) and provide an “Acknowledgement”, that they appeared before me and provided valid identification.
OR
I can place the signer under oath and provide a “Jurat”. Which is where the signer swears that the contents of the document are true and correct. The most common is an acknowledgement, but again, I am not at liberty to make that decision for the signer.
